My review of Brian VanDeMark’s landmark history of how the U.S. became involved in Vietnam, Road to Disaster, is out today. You can read it at http://www.washingtonindependentreviewofbooks.com/bookreview/road-to-disaster-a-new-history-of-americas-descent-into-vietnam
Tom, Kudos. I enjoyed your book review. I agree that of course the war continued to 1975.
To say otherwise shows America’s ethnocentric approach to all that went down
during those final difficult years. But alas, Americans call it the Vietnam War.
Some simply construe “Vietnam” to mean the war period, forgetting a beautiful
place, a fascinating culture, and diverse group of people.
The Vietnamese, I understand, call it the American War.
That says much. Thanks!
